Moldova might not be a very popular or rich european country, but there is one economical aspect where it exceeds in and it is wine producing. Its moderate climate and geological characteristics are ideal for grapes to grow and the people of the country take advantage of this business as much as possible. In fact, in Mileștii Mici lies an underground tunnel complex full of wine bottles and according to Guinness World Records it is the largest wine collection in the world, having over 2 million bottles in a space that stretches to 200 kilometers.
The wine complex was built in 1969 to store, preserve and mature high-quality wine.
The limestone of the tunnels maintains a temperature of 12-14oC and humidity between 85%-95%.
Some red wines are stored for decades before being sold. The most they remain there the better they become.
The wine cellars stretch to 200 kilometers, but only 55 of them are currently in use.
