Lisa Lloyd is an experienced artist, who has worked as an animator, music video director and used to be the creative director in an animation studio. While her career in those areas was exciting and satisfactory, she realized that there was something missing. It was the satisfaction of creating something entirely on her own. Paper sculptures came into her life about six years ago, when she was still working in graphic design and animation. What had started as a hobby and free-time occupation, turned out to be the main engagement in her professional life.
Her first ever completed project was this 2D hummingbird.
As progressing her art, she became a member of the Paper Art Collective, a group of experienced and super talented paper artists.
She started experimenting with the 3D form and challenged herself to evolve as an artist by trying to complete harder projects.
Her first big success was when she was featured in Waitrose Magazine in UK, where she was asked to create a certain piece for the cover.
Usually, one single paper sculpture takes her about 5 days to finish and she uses hundreds of paper pieces per project.
Most of her inspiration derives from nature and the unique creatures and textures that someone can find there. She also is inspired by the fashion and the design worlds.
She finds this entire experience of working with paper cuts relaxing, also like meditating.
