Camden Davis is the name of the 12-year-old kid, who attended the Hope Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The academy specializes in treating kids with special needs and as they mention in their website, they promote “inclusion, encouragement, positive relationships and recognition of student accomplishment.” Not only they didn’t do that in Camden’s case, but they even made fun of him and his difficulty in following the rest of the class. His mom noticed that he was in distress after coming from school and was certain that something was wrong. That’s why she decided to put a recording device in his backpack. The outcome was way more surprising that anyone could expect.
This is 12-year-old Camden Davis, who is severely autistic
His mother Milissa decided to have him enrolled into Hope Academy, which specializes in kids with special needs.
She started noticing signs of distress on Camden
It wasn’t long after the boy started attending the school that his mother started noticing signs of distress on him after coming back from school.
That’s why she decided to hide a recording device in his backpack
Camden wasn’t able to vocalize the source of his distress, so his mother had to find another solution.
The recordings unveiled the reality that Camden has been living
He was being bullied, but not by his classmates, but his allegedly experienced teachers.
His new teacher has a degree in special ed, Applied Behavior Analysis and a minor in psychology
All these degrees and nothing taught her the sensitivity that she must have when facing autistic kids.
Camden is still suffering from his experience with the abusing teachers
He still suffers from anxiety and wets the bed. The last time he wet the bed was when he was 3.
Milissa took the recordings to the school board and caused many reactions
Milissa has always been the most supportive person in Camden’s life and always tries to protect him from every expression of bullying and abuse.
Lisa Stone, the school’s principal, acted quickly and had the two teachers removed
Nothing can be taken for granted when humans are involved. And this story teaches us how important is to double check our facts and not accept anyone based on their degrees and various pieces of paper. Please watch the video of the recordings here.
