After the glitched sections were shaped, sanded, and re-shaped to the satisfaction of the fabricators, they were painted with a grey base coat in preparation for a more permanent paint coating.
The piece was hoisted off the truck onto a pre-poured base, installed in early June. The installation team set to work fixing the sculpture in place, bolting the central steel structure (two large beams) to underground foundations engineered to support the artwork.
The arists also created a playful public engagement called The Glove Box, where people were invited to contribute to a short survey about cars, answering some simple questions like “What’s the greatest distance you’ve travelled by car?” and “What’s your favourite road trippin’ tune?” as well as some more challenging questions.
