We sometimes tend to believe that nature only comes in peace; but we also have to keep in mind that it has a brutal and totally unfair side. Nature photographer Kevin Ebi whose work has appeared in numerous publications, including National Geographic, took a rare photo of an eagle stealing the pray of a young fox. To our surprise the fox, despite its youth didn’t give up that easily, instead it kept its jaw clenched on the rabbit and the struggle lasted for approximately 8-10 seconds with the fox pending in the sky 20 feet above the earth.
This incident took place in San Juan Islands, while Kevin was watching over some young foxes hunting over their pray.
Kevin heard the cry of the eagle and he instantly knew it was here for stealing.
It is actually very often to see an eagle in an act of thievery.
I suppose it didn’t want to waste time searching for its own prey.
Kevin suspected that the eagle probably thought the fox, because of its age, would have been scared of the eagle and that it would have dropped the rabbit.
It is really amazing to be a witness of something like this.
Eventually the fox realized that this battle can’t be won.
We have to say that this was one brave and fearless fox.
Kevin said that in his 20 years of career he have seen bald eagles stealing food from other animals but he has never seen something similar to this.
It was really a survival game.
The fox gave up the fight and the eagle dropped it from a height of 20 feet.
What can I say?
Kevin likes to take pictures that have a story to tell.
A clumsy way of falling, really.
The fox took a pretty heavy landing but hopefully didn’t show any signs of injury.
The fox has that ”pokerface”, giving a funny side to this story.
In conclusion this was the story of fox and the eagle and the summary is that in nature you observe a variety of behaviors, from caring stories to savage and unfair situations.
