When Historical Figures Decide to Take a Selfie

cargocollective

When we go to a museum, we basically do it because we want to admire the art and the different era that each painting was made at with everything that this entails. The clothing is different, the hairstyles are more complicated and people’s pose is way more conservative than in today’s art. So, you can imagine how weird it would look if we saw the characters of those paintings holding a modern phone and taking a selfie. Tears will be running from our eyes and not due to emotion from the high art.

Museum of Selfies is the tumblr account that started uploading the funny images of historical figures taking selfies.

The images are hilarious.

The purpose of the alterations is to give new life to paintings that can be considered outdated and old.

I think that this whole movement has served its purpose.

When you view a historic painting through the prism of humor, you create a new and more interesting view on it.

I bet you agree with me.

Anyone can join the museum of selfies and send their alteration at museumofselfies@gmail.com

I might try it to be honest.

You can also upload your image on Instagram and add the hashtag #museumofselfies.

How can you do this? One may ask.

The technique is pretty easy:

You put a friend stand next to the painting and insert their selfie hand inside your frame.

Compared to every selfie you’ve ever taken, this should be the easiest and most fun.

I actually laughed with this one.

This technique is also a great way for teachers to get their students’ attention and intrigue them.

Altering art and presenting it though a funny lens is not a bad thing. The bad thing would be to destroy a piece of art or insult the creator. When something happens in order to make people laugh and give them a good time and lesson, you can call it a ‘creative alteration’.
